TEETH
Wisdom teeth, also called third molars, may not
be able to emerge due to lack of space at any
given time and therefore when they do emerge they
can deform the teeth or cause discomfort and infections.

When
this happens, the maxillofacial surgeon or surgically-trained
dentist will make a small incision in the gum
to locate the wisdom tooth and, once freed from
the surrounding bone, extracts it.

He
or she then fills the hole with reabsorbable gel
or plasma rich in growth factors so that the bone
grows back. This can be done on both the upper
and lower wisdom teeth.

When the patient has orthodontic braces inserted
to improve the position and aesthetics of the
teeth, the orthodontist may indicate the extraction
of the wisdom teeth to ensure the teeth remain
suitably aligned.
